Because Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will also host the UN annual climate summit in December, the BRICS event was pushed relatively early. That means the bloc’s work schedule has been curtailed, even in a year for which much more robust preparation and greater consensus are needed to withstand U.S. imperialist aggression.
Vladimir Putin had hosted 2024’s summit in Kazan, Russia in late-October. In most other years, the dates have been in the busy September-November period, allowing many pre-meetings to set the stage for a more meaningful heads-of-state meeting.
